I’m beginning to wonder if The Sacred Chalice has made more appearances than any other card or combination in the set. It certainly seems prolific of late and each time it arrives it brings with it a slightly expanded energy. Perhaps though, this week that expansion is one step too far?
In everyone’s life there are times when you just don’t feel as if you can possibly take any more. Too much pain, too much joy, too much anything is a strain on the human psycho-emotional system and this oracle energy turns up at the moment before release.
Don’t assume that suffering is born only of negative over stimulation. Imagine if you will that you are undertaking a blissful journey. The journey, as they say is the destination, but for most the destination is a conclusion from which point a new journey can begin. If the destination is perceived to be forever out of reach, then the sojourner eventually arrives at a point where they can no longer continue because no end is in sight. This reminds me of the symbol of the Ouroboros (the snake curled around in a circle swallowing its own tail), eternally going round and round and never quite completing anything.
Now on this particular leg of our hero’s journey is a promise that you’re almost there. I’ve been seeing an image of a threshold all week that portends standing on the brink of the new, but when the Sacred Chalice shows up, as I’ve said before, it demands that you can no longer carry on doing life the same way. The proverbial tower falls, structures are rearranged as one journey ends and another begins.
This is the excruciating bit just before the miracle, just before the tipping point… but you can’t see the miracle, you can’t see the finish line, you’ve endured for so long that the promise of it sounds just like all those other promises and you are standing in the gateway, the threshold between what was and what will be and right now you have a choice…
You have no idea what stepping through will bring, you have no idea what stepping back will bring either… everything is operating at a level of uncertainty. This miracle could be supreme success at the peak of your climb or it could be sweet relief at the very bottom of your fall… and here’s your dilemma: do you believe in miracles or do you believe that to take one more step would be to fall asleep once again under the influence of the master illusionist only to begin the cycle again and perpetuity?
The Chalice shows up when you’re empty and you can be empty for one of two reasons: either you’re making room for the universe to deliver the mother load, or you have allowed life to use you up, which is it?
The fearful mind will create distress, compel you to panic and force some form of drama (after all you’ve convinced yourself you can only take so much and this is where you usually begin to struggle), but the hero will stand on the edge of heaven and wait for the gates to open, fully believing in the benevolence of the master illusionist and that this journey is not an illusion at all.
You’ve been here before… but you’re awake now, you’re aware… be The Sacred Chalice and let whatever happens next to break your heart wide open ready to be filled.
Nothing goes on forever, don’t quit right before you arrive at the destination. You’re almost there. Take a drink from the Chalice and find the strength to keep going.
More next week… x
