Identify When You’re In A State Of Emergency

Are you aware of your own level of well-being to a point where you can identify when you’re in a state of emergency?

I’m not talking about an external life-threatening emergency here, I’m referring to the heightened physiological and psychological nature of your mind and body when you are in a default state of stress.

If you read my last blog about “what to do when your chalice spills” you will begin to see a pattern forming around the need to be Self-Full. “I AM Self-Full” is the 6th Principle of The Grail Path and asks that you take responsibility for your own health and well-being and put yourself at the top of your own priority list. Between that post and this one, there is a gap… I was preparing for my Sacred Chalice to spill. And spill it did, just a few short days after I published the post, when my mum passed to spirit after a long battle with ill health.

Because of the pre-work I did, I have been handling bereavement pretty well but I have noticed something that I was completely unaware of before: I have been living in a constant state of stress and low-level anxiety for the last 2 years that my mum was unwell and my body is still fixed in that state of emergency.

This is how it is showing up for me:

  • increased mind chatter
  • poor concentration
  • inability to relax or switch off
  • disturbed sleep and waking with anxious expectation
  • a feeling of imminent deadline or imagined disciplinary force
  • exhaustion and overwhelm and now
  • debilitating migraines and dizziness!

Just try to understand for a moment that I am a spiritual teacher, a holistic energy therapist and I published a book on recovering from stress and burnout… If I can experience this type of stress as a result of unconsciously slipping into my sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight or freeze response to stress), then how can you identify when you’re in a state of emergency? Well, are any of the above symptoms feeling familiar to you?

The reason I am aware of it now is that the reason for my stress is no longer valid. I don’t need to keep my phone on at night in case of an emergency call, there is no risk of mum being whisked off to hospital at a moment’s notice, I’m no longer responsible for the well-being of another who cannot care for themselves and there is no deadline (that I haven’t imposed on myself). My need for high alert has ended… and now it has, the symptoms are being exposed for what they are.

In my conversations with my angels this week and in some of my own personal oracle readings, I have been receiving a repetitive message: “Reconnect your mind to your body.” This is a signal for me to refocus on my holistic well-being and give some love and attention to my sacred physical vessel, which is ultimately the temple and vehicle for my soul. You cannot walk the Grail Path without embracing this holy trinity of mind, body and spirit and that’s why I am returning to the practices laid out in the Self-Full Living Workbook, based on my recovery from the debilitating effects of stress over 15 years ago.

What To Do When Your Chalice Spills

There is one fundamental truth to the Grail Path that cannot be avoided when living a physical life, (which if you are reading this then presumably you are): You cannot keep the Grail. It will inevitable be upturned at some point in your life and you will need to begin to refill it from the bottom up. But do you know what to do when your chalice spills?

Loss of vital lifeforce

Put in plain language, life throws you curve balls in the form of challenges, endings, illness and a whole host of other shocks and spills that will cause your world to rock internally and transform right before your eyes. These are moment when you aren’t sure you can go on. It is certain that life will not allow you to go on the way you were before, because now your reality has shifted irrevocably and you have to learn a whole new set of rules in unfamiliar circumstances. Before any of that can happen in your outer reality, you have to heal the initial spill of your vital lifeforce …and that is going to take a beat.

When shock shows up in your world and your Grail cup is upturned, it’s a usual response to try to do one of two things:

  • Attempt to gather the scattered contents and get back what was lost or
  • Fill the chalice with anything and everything inappropriate to distract from the emptiness and avoid feeling that loss.

A more effective method

Let me just reassure you that neither of these responses is wrong… there is only instinct and survival under these circumstances, but there are more effective ways of recovery.

Try to understand that the sacred chalice is never completely empty even when it appears all is lost. There is residue clinging to the sides. Depending on how much self- work you have done on your path, that residue will either be supportive or detrimentaal to whatever you choose to refil the cup with. That residue is in the form of memories, beliefs, gratitude or regret for example. You first need to give the mind, body and spirit an opportunity to process the residue and that means being brave enough to stay empty for a time.

Honouring the void

Staying empty means leaving a void and that void is filled with healing nurturing potential. The longer we can honour the space, the more complete the healing, before we begin to refill the claice with new stuff. This doesn’t mean pushing away the offer of nurturance and support, but it does mean rejecting the more socailly acceptable distractions (usually offered by others to alleviate their own discomfort around your situation). this is going to take forgiveness and firm boundaries.

Instead, this is what to do when your chalice spills:

  • Give yourself permission to feel
  • Give yourself permission to be
  • Focus on the basics of self-care (Self-Full Living)
  • Don’t apologise for yourself
  • Don’t minimise your emotions to honour the feelings of others
  • Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s
  • Ask for help from appropriate sources
  • Take time out until you are ready
  • Honour the sacred redirection the Divine is offering

The chalice often spills out of the blue. Occasionally we are aware of the incoming changes, but can do nothing to prevent them from occurring. The more you understand the Principles of The Grail Path the more tools you have to anchor your faith in your ability to heal and set the Chalice back upright, ready to refill after a time. You will be to go on to do the great things the Universe created you for, don’t doubt that for a second.

July Oracle: First Meet Your Own Needs

I haven’t seen this combination in quite some time. It joins the vivid orange energy of the sacral chakra, the sexual, sensual and vitality energy centre, with the 6th Principle: I AM Self-Full. With this comes a warning of the need for healing and the main message from the July Oracle: first meet your own needs.

The sacral chakra is often activated when we engage in intimate interactions with others. Not necessarily sexual per se, as intimacy can simply be a caring connection and vulnerability with another human being. It can be about how we give and receive nurturance or love. That being said, when Principle 6 shows up, you are being directly advised to love yourself first.

Meeting your own needs

Tending to your own need for nurturance is fundamental in restoring your energy during or directly after times of high stress or illness. It is also the first requirement in avoiding codependent or needy relationships. As an oracle then, this combination is alluding to one or both of these two things: Either you are in recovery after illness/trauma, or you are about to enter a new relationship.

Having already uploaded the Dragon and Alignment Readings for this week (and the next few weeks to come), I can say that the latter is very likely at this time.

Self-love as a precedent

If codependency is your pattern then this oracle is recommending that you review what you have learned from the previous relationships that have come to you as teachers, then decide what patterns you do not wish to repeat. Starting with self-love and self-care sets a precedent for how others will treat you. It also gives you a good set of boundaries to recognise what you are and are not prepared to accept.

Signs you haven’t healed yet

If you are still healing from a prior connection then this is not the time to get into any new entanglements as further self-work may need to occur. This may look like blame, shame, unforgiveness and other low frequency emotions like anger and resentment. Being Self-Full also means taking responsibility for your own life, healing, expectations and choices.

First meet your own needs as a matter of priority. Only then will you be able to live, love and connect in a healthy way, without need for anyone to meet your needs for you.

What do you need to heal? What can you give to yourself today? The gift of your own love is good place to start. You deserve nothing less.

What’s Happening With My Energy?

I booted up my laptop this morning to write the weekly blog and this was the randomised screensaver that greeted me from the Google archive. I recognised it immediately. Not just because its geographical location is near where I live and apparently I have ancestors on my maternal grandfather’s side from there, but I recognised it more deeply on a soul level as to what’s happening with my energy right now.

Firstly, in case you are wondering what ungodly pheomenon this might be, it’s actually a beautiful piece of engineering at Ladybower reservoir in Derbyshire, UK. I always used to call it the plughole when I was little, (probably still would today if I’m honest).

Seeing the image on my screen this morning it reminded me of the way our personal energy, if unchecked, can just go down the plughole and into the great abyss, leaving us needing to work ever harder to bring ourselves back into balance through Self-Full focus and care. The truth is though, if we were much more discerning about how we use our resources (whether intellectual, emotional, physical or material) and consciously manage our focus and attention, then this great big monster-of-a-drain wouldn’t even register, because we each possess the means to direct the flow and even plug it if we need to.

So what’s happening with my energy? For me personally, my physical energy is doing fine at present, but I do recognise the signs that I am spreading myself too thin, and across too many different projects/platforms… it doesn’t feel like I’m doing any of them justice at the moment.

My passion and my purpose is to serve and to teach and to make a difference in the lives of those I reach… but it has to be a positive difference. It has to nourish me in return so that I can keep serving. You see, it doesn’t matter how much energy is pouring down the plughole as long as an equal or even greater amount is also pouring in. This is the nature of Principle 7 of the Grail. In order to balance the in and the out, the giving and the receiving, essentially the resourse management, I have had to take my foot off the gas in areas that are not nurturing me too in some way: mind,body or spirit.

Over the coming weeks I have decided that I need to increase my “selective” handling of the different ways in which I serve so that I have more to give and more importantly, the fewer ways I do so can have greater impact.

Now, we know what’s happening with my energy, what I want to know is: does the ‘monstrous devourer of life force’ pictured above, resonate for you in the same way it did for me today… and can you identify in your own life what the power drain might actually be? Perhaps it’s a job, a person, a relationship, a habit or even a thought pattern…. maybe it’s even just the endless bad news on social media?

Handling The Process of Liberation

I can’t begin to describe to you how difficult and yet strangely comforting the last week or so has been, as I have been launched unexpectedly into handling the process of liberation. The sudden death of a loved one around the time of the new moon, a change in direction over an elderly parent’s care and a hiccup in my own health, have all pushed me to re-embrace parts of myself that I had mistakenly cast aside in the melee of daily life.

Liberation is sometimes a gentle letting go of the things that we have outgrown, but oftentimes it comes as a shock ending of something that we naively believed would be there forever. Nothing in nature is permanent and we are therefore advised in every spiritual tradition to live in the now and attach to nothing.

Human nature though, has us forming bonds for our own survival, a hang up from the days when primative tribal mentality was still the norm across the entire globe.

As we are jolted by whatever means from our intrinsic trance-like state, just long enough to see clearly the bigger plan that is subtly shielded from us in order that we continue along our daily charade, we are forced to look at our own mortality and our own sense of posessive ownership of the things, people and connections around us. Even our own bodies are on loan from the universe, as a vehicle for exploring the realm in which we find ourselves. But it’s a beautiful game and one we were falling over ourselves to be a part of no doubt.

Handling the process of liberation though, is a game of slowing down and getting to grips with where you are. I have found myself speeding up, leaning into the experience of expelling the unwanted… not gripping, not resisting but in complete opposition… forcing the process to continue. Daring the universe in a bold “let’s just get on with it then” kind of attitude. It’s not the way.

If you are handling this letting go process or finding yourself in a grieving stage, be mindful that Source has a timetable, one that is designed for you to handle even if it feels like you are falling apart (or holding it together). You are not in control of the speed at which the universe purges your karma or even how long it will take to reach your destiny.

Be prepared to let go… don’t rush forward, don’t hold back… let nature take it’s course and you will arrive exactly where you are meant to be, exactly when you are meant to be there.

Now is the time to practice extreme self-care (Principle 6), self-love (Principle 1) and forgiveness (Principle 3).

Allow yourself to feel.

February’s Oracle – Feeling Human Again

It’s a combination that I didn’t know when I selected the cards, would resonate so keenly in the month ahead. Joining together the energies of fallibility, even vulnerability with the gentle brush of compassion, this month’s Intuitive Chalice Oracle is asking us to keep our hearts open to healing until we start feeling human again.

Usually the combination of forgiveness and the healing of emotions brought on by either our own failure or the triggering acts of another, Principle 3: I AM Human asks you see the divinity behind the mask of frailty. I also asks that you honour that existence in the material plane demands that we learn through making mistakes and sometimes those mistakes hurt us or others.

The heart chakra has a magical quality when we allow it to open fully to unconditional forgiveness, because through time and compassion, through understanding and gentle letting go, it re-orients to the divine in every being. It is only in the seat of the ego that unforgiveness remains beyond the higher perspective of witnessing all humanity as children learning.

As I write this evaluation of the energies for the coming month, I am grieving. A shock, sudden departure from this world of a deep love, has me considering the most beautiful aspects of humanity even when the physical truth was less than desirable. All our brothers and sisters deserve our love and compassion and we deserve it for ourselves. Freedom exists in knowing what to hold onto and when suffering is a choice of simply letting go. Love remains and even increases beyond and behind the mask of humanity because there is no barrier or ego to impede its natural flow.

As you step through February, be mindful of the grudges you carry, the hurts you hold onto, the scars you use as badges of honour and the venom you use as a battle cry. It will not lift you to the place of peace you wish to reside in. Revenge will not bring you inner calm and the sanctuary of angelic wings to enfold you, it will bring you only separation from the most precious commodity that human beings have to trade, and that is love.

Forgive everyone, start with yourself. Offer love instead of anger or fearful rebukes. Now is the time to empty the poisoned chalice and refill it with that which serves your highest purpose… you were made to be a pure clear channel for light. You’ll soon be feeling human again.

Don’t Take It With you – Find Freedom Through Forgiveness

Being able to find freedom through forgiveness sounds impossible when you are holding onto so much anger and resentment from whatever betrayal you feel has been perpetrated against you, but I’m asking you, for your own sake, please don’t take it with you into the next year.

As it happens, every single moment of every single day is an opportunity to begin again with a clean slate, but for some reason, we as a species have agreed upon the arbitrary date of January 1st to be the beginning of a new cycle (personally, I see the Solstice as being a more natural point but it matters not). This New Year then can be heavily symbolic of all our hopes and dreams for a fresh start.

The single biggest threat to your new beginning though, is your inability to let go of the past and to carry it and all its associated judgements with your into the next cycle.

I cannot imagine holding onto the pain of past disappointments and wearing them like a badge of honour as what I had to endure… who would that make me? Unforgiveness is a mark of victimhood long after the incident is long since gone. It is the repeat pattern of self-imposed torture and the reinvigorating of the painful emotions associated with what is no longer current… worse still, it is your complicity in continuing to wield the weapon that was originally used to harm you… you therefore repeatedly energetically self-harm on the behalf of your abuser who has nothing to do other than to sit back and enjoy your suffering if they are so inclined.

Forgiveness is a lesson not in divinity but in humanity. To be human is hard, its also terrifying at times because where once you, as a soul, were invincible and eternal, you have now been thrust into a fragile, vulnerable outer shell that appears to have a finite existence and no recollection of the truth of who you are or why you came. The separateness from those around you has you seeking to connect but scrambling to remain apart for fear that some of your finite resources might be usurped even if those resources are your energy and your reputation (and your pride and your false sense of the definition you have givien to yourself). You’ve lost perspective because you forgot that what hurts you hurts the whole and what hurts the whole ultimately hurts you and so you endeavour to perpetuate the bile of anger and spew it at those who hurt you… becoming a mirror of their actions instead of a transmuter of all lower vibrations… a light guiding others back to wholeness.

You didn’t come to carry pain, you came to expand through the experience of it and every other sensation, seemingly good or bad. You came to be a good student and a co-creative bridge-builder between heaven and earth… but you cannot build bridges whist you are burning them down and closing your heart to all experiences that might be reminiscent of something that turned sour once upon a time. Please don’t take it with you.

You do not have to invite the individual that caused you harm into your orbit again, you do not have to formally say the words “I forgive you” to them at all. Forgiveness is a deeply personal act of recognising the fallibility, frailty and vulnerability in another human being that caused them, always through fear, to act out, and then remembering the power within you to let go of what doesn’t serve your highest good and allow light back in to heal the space where the darkness was once poisoning you from the inside out.

Weekly Oracle – Mending What’s Meaningful

The ancient Chinese divination system, the I-ching, which roughly translated means “book of changes,” is made up of 64 hexagrams that navigate the twists and turns of life in a very elegant narrative that I find quite beautiful. This week’s Intuitive Chalice combination reminds me of Hexagram 18, also known as “Repairing what is spoiled” or simply “decay.”

We live in such a throwaway society in th 21st century that nothing really appears to be sacred enough to save anymore, whether that be things, ideas, relationships… easy come, easy go. But this week is highlighting the need to make amends, literally.

Principle 3: I AM Human recognises the frailties of humanity and offers us redemption through forgiveness and atonement, as we are asked also to recognise the frailties in our global brothers and sisters, forgiving them for their trespasses as it were. Mending bridges and healing differences, first within our own shadow and then in all external connections, is key in freeing ourselves from lower vibrational and potentially toxic emotions like blame, shame and guilt.

The blood red base or root chakra governs manifest reality or tangible forms and structures including the physical body and the planet we live on. 

Something very real needs healing this week and in order to heal it, there must be some form of recognition of the broken nature in which it presents itself, and not only that, but to truly atone for it’s current state you must acknowledge your own part in it’s decay.

Mending what’s meaningful shows great respect for the time it takes to build certain structures in our lives such as homes, businesses, families, friendships and relationships whilst also paying attention to the fragility of all that exists in manifest form and how quickly it can fall into ruins through neglect or inattention.

You have the power to fix what is broken so that it may continue to serve and support you along your onward journey.

Now is the time to care for what cares for you.

Weekly Oracle – The Way Home To Self

I’m noticed a pattern. When The Sacred Chalice shows up in a reading it likes to hang around for a while and rarely stays for just one week and so there was no surprise when it presented itself again today. Following last week’s energy of the Chalice being spilled to make room, this week feels like recovery.

There are times in life when we quietly move in a peaceful direction back to wholeness without feeling the need to chat about where we are at or what we are doing. This time of recovery, of going within, is the way home to self. 

“Quiet” and “peacefully” are not ways of describing withdrawal from daily life though, on the contrary, though differences maybe subtlety noticeable, for all intents and purposes you seem to be doing what you’ve always done except for the fact that you are nurturing in private a renewed sense of purpose, direction and an increased level of self love that demands nothing short of you now living your best life in the here and now.

The Wholly Grail is what remains when you remove all distractions, disempowered thinking and searching beyond what is. It is what you find once you empty the cup and realise the essential truth of what truly fills it, and how to prioritize that as a way of life rather than an occasional intrigue.

If illness came your way recently, now you will begin to recover, if loss or grief came your way, then this is a time where the blessings begin to reveal themselves and the light returns, if chaos ensued, then now calm will begin to be restored as a new version of you is born from what was into what is yet to become. This rebirth is a gentle process and you may not quite understand yet on a conscious level just exactly why you feel different… but you are different. You get to choose now if you will go back to how it used to be, or if you really love yourself enough to become more.

How you define more of course is your business, don’t allow the world to dictate that… you just learned what it takes to fill your cup… to keep it full, in constant self-renewing fresh energy is your life’s work now. So do that.

For The Weekend – Happy Healthy and High Energy

A few years ago I put together an event called Fat Tuesday. It’s name stemmed from the celebratory idea of Mardi Gras (which does actually translate to Fat Tuesday), but it’s concept was all about being happy and healthy as you are. So many people are fixated on the body beautiful or at least some unobtainable idea of it promoted by the media, that we have all but lost sight of the most beautiful thing about having a body: the ability to revel in sensation as it houses and transports your spirit around this mortal life. Today I’m fully focused on being happy healthy and high energy!

…but recently that hasn’t been the case.

How often do you find yourself out of touch with your physical health? How often does your body have to remind you that you have a duty to care for it?

Lately I’ve been feeling way older than I should… things creak and ache when they shouldn’t, my flexibility has reduced quite a bit in the last year and I’m finding myself more tired more often than usual… it’s a message that I’ve been ignoring but I cannot continue to be blind to the warnings.

Mind, body and spirit… the wholly trinity (yes, I spelled it correctly) of Self-Fullness. When all three are in balance we become an unstoppable channel for Divine service, but when one side of the triangle is depleted in any way, the whole is ineffective and illness follows.

Principle 6 of The Wholly Grail: I AM Self-Full, centres around self care and is totally focused on strengthening the triangle beginning with the physical body… the mind will deteriorate without a healthy body: adequate sleep, nutritious food, appropriate exercise and optimum hydration. The spirit will wither in the absence of a strong dwelling place and in competition with the distraction of physical discomfort… so what are you waiting for?

Though we all have commitments to uphold and attend to, the first commitment I’m making today is to myself… I deserve a life that’s happy, healthy and high energy… you do too (but you have to do it for yourself).
