What To Do When Your Chalice Spills

There is one fundamental truth to the Grail Path that cannot be avoided when living a physical life, (which if you are reading this then presumably you are): You cannot keep the Grail. It will inevitable be upturned at some point in your life and you will need to begin to refill it from the bottom up. But do you know what to do when your chalice spills?

Loss of vital lifeforce

Put in plain language, life throws you curve balls in the form of challenges, endings, illness and a whole host of other shocks and spills that will cause your world to rock internally and transform right before your eyes. These are moment when you aren’t sure you can go on. It is certain that life will not allow you to go on the way you were before, because now your reality has shifted irrevocably and you have to learn a whole new set of rules in unfamiliar circumstances. Before any of that can happen in your outer reality, you have to heal the initial spill of your vital lifeforce …and that is going to take a beat.

When shock shows up in your world and your Grail cup is upturned, it’s a usual response to try to do one of two things:

  • Attempt to gather the scattered contents and get back what was lost or
  • Fill the chalice with anything and everything inappropriate to distract from the emptiness and avoid feeling that loss.

A more effective method

Let me just reassure you that neither of these responses is wrong… there is only instinct and survival under these circumstances, but there are more effective ways of recovery.

Try to understand that the sacred chalice is never completely empty even when it appears all is lost. There is residue clinging to the sides. Depending on how much self- work you have done on your path, that residue will either be supportive or detrimentaal to whatever you choose to refil the cup with. That residue is in the form of memories, beliefs, gratitude or regret for example. You first need to give the mind, body and spirit an opportunity to process the residue and that means being brave enough to stay empty for a time.

Honouring the void

Staying empty means leaving a void and that void is filled with healing nurturing potential. The longer we can honour the space, the more complete the healing, before we begin to refill the claice with new stuff. This doesn’t mean pushing away the offer of nurturance and support, but it does mean rejecting the more socailly acceptable distractions (usually offered by others to alleviate their own discomfort around your situation). this is going to take forgiveness and firm boundaries.

Instead, this is what to do when your chalice spills:

  • Give yourself permission to feel
  • Give yourself permission to be
  • Focus on the basics of self-care (Self-Full Living)
  • Don’t apologise for yourself
  • Don’t minimise your emotions to honour the feelings of others
  • Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s
  • Ask for help from appropriate sources
  • Take time out until you are ready
  • Honour the sacred redirection the Divine is offering

The chalice often spills out of the blue. Occasionally we are aware of the incoming changes, but can do nothing to prevent them from occurring. The more you understand the Principles of The Grail Path the more tools you have to anchor your faith in your ability to heal and set the Chalice back upright, ready to refill after a time. You will be to go on to do the great things the Universe created you for, don’t doubt that for a second.

When The Going Gets Tough

So I have Billy Ocean’s 1980’s tune circling around my head just thinking about this title and no doubt I will be singing it for the rest of the day, but the context is slightly misplaced as concept for this insight. You see, when the going gets tough, the tough actually hunker down and ride out the uncertainty… they don’t jump ship or get going.

Uncertainty has been a theme for me for a while now. External circumstances have been disrupted outside of my control, but my usual stress-head reactions to adversity didn’t kick in this time and instead were replaced with a familiar old friend and alter ego: the manager (crisis manager to be accurate).

I’ve been forced to reconnect with an aspect of self that knows how to think fast and find creative solutions to shifting parameters but there has also been an evolution in this archetypal energy, a bit like growing up. Whereas once the stress response of fight or flight would have fuelled the quick thinking, problem solving, superwoman, she has hung up her cape and rolled up her sleeves and just placed one foot in front of the other trusting the path to meet her and trusting the decisions she has to make.

One of The Wholly Grail mechanics states “you cannot keep the Grail.” It pays respect to the flip of the yin/yang in the dance of the universe and that life can change in an instant… some call it fate, without this dynamic, life stagnates and so to keep you moving forward, growing and expanding, life throws in the odd plot twist to keep it interesting… after all, no adventure story would be worth reading if we took out the adventure part!

My old paradigm had me rising to the challenge of controlling the crash landing in an adrenalin-fuelled frenzy that required lots of self-applause after the fact for how well I managed, the new evolved me has just let go of the outcome (Principle 2: I AM Detached) knowing that the outcome is inevitable and the timing is up to the Divine. (Though I have to admit, there are other areas of my life where I’m still seeking that clarity).

When you know there is only one outcome and your only job is to decide whether you want to get there the easy way or the hard way, (this choice does first require the need for acceptance though), letting go of the struggle is the simplest option and your Grail is returned immediately. It’s called surrender.

When the going gets tough, the tough surrender. Peace comes from that place. From that place, whatever plot twists, shocks and spills come your way, you have the power to keep going, to survive and to thrive… and when peace returns you to your Garden of Eden, there’s no need for a round of self-applause, just look up (symbolically) and say “Thank you.”

May you find peace in all your plot twists…

In The Presence Of Heroes

Many of you have them, heroes that is. Perhaps those in the media, those in powerful positions within your industries or interests, but how many of your heroes exist within your current circle of friends?

I feel very blessed to know quite a few, what I call, everyday heroes. People who inspire me day in, day out with extraordinary feats of endurance, patience, forgiveness, strength of character and the ability to break through personal barriers in their own lives and I am genuinely grateful for each of them.

When you focus on what needs to transform within your own life, often it’s difficult to see a way to break through old conditioning… My mum has this saying that makes me laugh “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” which is basically her way of saying she can’t be bothered to break an old habit if it requires effort, but there are times when you genuinely don’t know how to start. This is the time when you call upon your heroes and ask yourself: “What do I admire about them?” “What attributes would I like to emulate in my own life?”

If you are surrounded by heroes then you too are blessed because you naturally begin to morph into the same vibration as those you spend your time with. If however, you find yourself spending the majority of your time with the victim brigade then guess where your energy is headed? A few of you will be strong enough to pull the crowd up by the bootstraps into the 5th dimension but most will be betting against losing odds. So here’s the thing… place yourself in the presence of heroes.

When it comes to The Wholly Grail, Principle 4: I AM Truth asks that you follow your own star and so emulating your heroes might seem counter-intuitive, but when you have identified and are focused on the star, it’s helpful if someone is around to demonstrate how to tie the rope and lasso the one with your name on it!

The heroes in your life will show you how, tell you you can,  cheer you on whilst you try and open the champagne when you succeed… The heroes are my kind of people.

Nothing To Do With You

Every once in a while you whole world appears to collapse in on itself. The ground disappears from beneath that beautiful meandering river that you were flowing along and suddenly you are free-falling  down a thundering waterfall, flailing about trying to grab a hold of something solid, something definite…

Did life as you know it just end? Did your plans, dreams, goals just crash on the rocks below or get washed away whist you were still falling?

In a universe this vast, its impossible to be unaffected by external events, other people and their actions, even if the connection isn’t locally recognisable like say a war creating global financial instability which in turn affects the amount of retail spending and a recession hits which causes you to be made redundant… the war has nothing to do with you, does it? You may not have made the connection but it’s affects have caused the bottom to drop out of your world… now that’s just an example. Let’s say that your particular river has been flowing towards merging with another river but somewhere out in the world more than one tributary stream influences the flow of that river and causes it to divert and damn up…

Those tributaries have nothing to do with you but now your world and your flow is affected…

So the bottom dropped out of your world and you’re in freefall… the most significant mechanic of The Wholly Grail is that you cannot keep the Grail. Life will not allow you to become complacent or take it for granted, it’s the detours that keep the journey interesting and indeed keep it moving forward. So you hoped that the goal would be in sight by now but the truth is that God never lost sight of it in the first place… He’s testing your survival skills at this point and attempting to synchronize the rate of flow in each of the rivers, it’s your job to remember that God is your dingy and when you hit the bottom of the falls all you have to do is climb back in and you’ll be floating on your way again.

Keep returning to the true Source of your Grail and no part of your adventure will be in vain.
