Identify When You’re In A State Of Emergency

Are you aware of your own level of well-being to a point where you can identify when you’re in a state of emergency?

I’m not talking about an external life-threatening emergency here, I’m referring to the heightened physiological and psychological nature of your mind and body when you are in a default state of stress.

If you read my last blog about “what to do when your chalice spills” you will begin to see a pattern forming around the need to be Self-Full. “I AM Self-Full” is the 6th Principle of The Grail Path and asks that you take responsibility for your own health and well-being and put yourself at the top of your own priority list. Between that post and this one, there is a gap… I was preparing for my Sacred Chalice to spill. And spill it did, just a few short days after I published the post, when my mum passed to spirit after a long battle with ill health.

Because of the pre-work I did, I have been handling bereavement pretty well but I have noticed something that I was completely unaware of before: I have been living in a constant state of stress and low-level anxiety for the last 2 years that my mum was unwell and my body is still fixed in that state of emergency.

This is how it is showing up for me:

  • increased mind chatter
  • poor concentration
  • inability to relax or switch off
  • disturbed sleep and waking with anxious expectation
  • a feeling of imminent deadline or imagined disciplinary force
  • exhaustion and overwhelm and now
  • debilitating migraines and dizziness!

Just try to understand for a moment that I am a spiritual teacher, a holistic energy therapist and I published a book on recovering from stress and burnout… If I can experience this type of stress as a result of unconsciously slipping into my sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight or freeze response to stress), then how can you identify when you’re in a state of emergency? Well, are any of the above symptoms feeling familiar to you?

The reason I am aware of it now is that the reason for my stress is no longer valid. I don’t need to keep my phone on at night in case of an emergency call, there is no risk of mum being whisked off to hospital at a moment’s notice, I’m no longer responsible for the well-being of another who cannot care for themselves and there is no deadline (that I haven’t imposed on myself). My need for high alert has ended… and now it has, the symptoms are being exposed for what they are.

In my conversations with my angels this week and in some of my own personal oracle readings, I have been receiving a repetitive message: “Reconnect your mind to your body.” This is a signal for me to refocus on my holistic well-being and give some love and attention to my sacred physical vessel, which is ultimately the temple and vehicle for my soul. You cannot walk the Grail Path without embracing this holy trinity of mind, body and spirit and that’s why I am returning to the practices laid out in the Self-Full Living Workbook, based on my recovery from the debilitating effects of stress over 15 years ago.

Weekly Oracle – The Invisible Is Invincible

It’s feeling like an incoming “9 of Swords” kind of week, where you are tying yourself up in knots battling invisible demons, and you should know by now that the invisible is invincible.

The 9 of Swords is a tarot card that describes worry, anxiety and even nightmares brought on by our own fears and ‘catastrophic’ thought patterns being blown out of all proportion… you can learn more about the incoming storm over on my Priestess In Practice page (until the new moon eclipse) …but what does that have to do with this Grail combination?

The Solar Plexus is the chakra that handles digestion in all forms, that includes not only the food we take in but also the information and energy. Imagine if you will that this energy centre works a bit like a parking sensor on a vehicle, extending its range out through 360 degrees to see what’s happening in your environment and giving you an early warning of anything you could potentially crash into or what might crash into you so to speak. Because of the range of this sensor you may be aware on a very subtle level of trouble brewing out in your existential or environmental surroundings but there is no evidence in your day to day reality so your mind starts taking over and makes shit up! Chances are its happening but it’s happening to someone else you are connected to and isn’t likely to touch you other than to bear witness. Empathy is a blessing but can be a curse if you have no clue how to be dispassionate about what is occurring.

Principle 6: I AM Self-Full... it does what it says on the tin: deals with fulfilling the needs of the Self. Anxiety and worry can be so energy draining and all-consuming that your proverbial cup empties and you scatter your vital resources all over the place. What’s interesting is that when Principle 6 shows up in a diagnostic reading it refers directly to your health and the solar plexus to diet and nutrition, so this combination is also a warning that whilst you are focused on battling the invisible demons on the outside of your energetic perimeter, you are also succumbing to your inner demons of addiction, overindulgence and dietary self-abuse.

Stress is very often met with addiction and any number of methods of drowning out the feelings or attempting to control the uncontrollable… like I said, the invisible is invincible.

Top tips for this week then:

  • Focus only on what’s happening in front of you
  • Concern yourself with only what’s yours to carry
  • Get out of your head and out of denial
  • Plan your nutritional intake, shop for it and stick to it
  • Ditch the toxins you’re consuming (physically & energetically)
  • Practice mindfulness by embracing Principle 2
  • Don’t be afraid of your feelings (they are messages from spirit)
  • Meditate, oxygenate (breathe) and exercise to reduce anxiety
  • Step away from all drama and those who bring it
  • Give what you cannot control to Source and the angels.

Remember that you become the invincible one when you place your energy squarely in the light and decide your outcome. When you journey into the realm of the invisible you have no substance or power there… but you lose power here too when you aren’t present and centred in your body, you become a spectator and eventually a victim of the ultimate 10 of Swords experience, also known as rock bottom (The Sacred Chalice in its negative form). Let’s take control, bypass this outcome and go straight back to the ace… clarity, understanding, everything into the light where shadows dissolve and positive action can be taken. In other words: when a butterfly sets off your parking sensor, don’t jump out of your vehicle, leaving the doors wide open to chase after it… you will never catch it and when you return to the vehicle you will find it ransacked, filled with unwelcome guests or burnt out completely!

The storm will pass, don’t let it take your health with it.

Modus Operandi Part 2 – Have You Wandered Off?

Continuing a theme from the other day, I thought we might once again explore our Modus Operandi, our method of operating in the world, asking this time: “have you wandered off?”

When studying the seven Principles of The Wholly Grail, believing ourselves to be fully embracing and honouring them, we often find that what we imagine ourselves to be doing and what we are actually doing are two different things…

I’m currently a good case and point. Presently succumbed to a minor bout of adrenal fatigue due to prolonged stress that I didn’t keep in check. I say minor because luckily I recognised the signs and took steps (Principle 6: I AM Self-Full) to detach from my stressors and to self-heal through rest, meditation, and bringing my full focus back to the present moment… I had wandered off into the future and stayed there too long, a place with no substance and certainly no sustenance.

Principle 2: I AM Detached gives us an instruction to remain present. Now, whilst we are attempting to manifest something into our lives we must point our attention to an imagined future and often make plans or take steps in the present to move in that direction, but if you are constantly pulled to what is promised or equally as detrimental: what has already gone, then we create stress, anxiety and worry energy that depletes the adrenal energy and forms an unsolvable conundrum within the forebrain, a problem that cannot be reconciled and therefore becomes a loop that brings us back to the same question over and over.

In order to fully embrace Principle 2, you have to jolt yourself loose from the infinite possibilities that only time and God can resolve, which is not always easy when loved ones and those with whom you have a shared vision constantly draw your attention to the potential in an effort to build excitement… excitement and suspense are both indicators that you are once again being pulled forward… and so starts the feedback loop again… compounding yet more stress. There will always be those who help to fuel your drama for their own ends.

Personally, I work a bit like a pressure cooker, every so often under these circumstances I will “blow off steam,” usually right before stress makes me ill. This tendency towards becoming a stress head was what led me to define the Grail in the first place.

So then, what’s your Modus Operandi? Have you wandered off too far into the shadow world of tomorrows or yesterdays?

You can use “I AM Detached” as an affirmation to help bring you back to the present moment, but it’s worth monitoring for a little while, maybe a day, where your mind wanders off to when you aren’t paying attention… that’s where all your energy is leaking and your Grail cup is spilling its precious life affirming contents.

Saturday Oracle – Calling The Control Tower

Anxiety levels are on the rise and its not just because of the impending holidays…

Since Last Tuesday’s new moon I have been in contact with numerous people who have been overcome with an intense stress energy that is apparently set to lead us into this coming week.

When Principle 2: I AM Detached meets the overly fizzy orange of the sacral chakra, the central nervous system becomes frazzled by the onslaught of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenalin pushing us into high alert and depleting vital resources and coping skills.

About two years ago I was suffering from an eye injury compounded by my body misinterpreting the threat and undertaking the task of attacking itself instead of the problem. In danger of losing my sight, that meant I had to take massive doses of steroids to suppress my immune response for an extended amount of time. Steroids are basically pharmacological versions of those stress hormones I mentioned earlier… The result was terrifying.

For several months I felt as though I had fractured my own mind, watching an internal battle play out between the different aspects of self over the most basic decisions like whether or not it was a good idea to make a cup of tea and partake of the beverage after 9.30 pm… not exactly a life threatening choice but enough that I began to panic as one version of me argued for and one argued against all the while the sane higher self was desperately trying to get them to listen to reason in that it made no difference whatsoever… my lovely mum eventually settled the argument via the phone, like landing a unmanned airplane remotely from the control tower.

It sounds funny now but the blind panic, shaking, surging anxiety and feeling of being out of control of even the most basic things is a very frightening experience.

In the last few days, these feelings, to a much lesser degree have begun to surface… luckily, being many months now free of prescription pharmaceutical aid (both eyeballs intact), the road to recovery is much less frightening and at least now recognisable without calling the control tower!

Imagine my surprise though when others started reporting in similar symptoms…

Here’s the thing, 2016 has been a year of clearing, literally letting go of the old, of endings. The New Moon, reported to be bringing love and abundance was a magical doorway highlighting the residue of the years work and reminding you that constant letting go causes perforations in the subtle bodies making you extra sensitive to both internal shifts and external manipulation.

Staying present is the most effective method of survival through this short-term flux. Your mind is your enemy during times of stress… your body is your friend… mindfulness is key. Focus on your breath, relaxing each muscle group in order, let go of anywhere you are holding tension and avoid asking why, acknowledging what’s happening during a panic attack is often enough to release its grip. Be very gentle with yourself this week avoid high stress environments and people, and use the age old mantra: this too shall pass.

The Ego’s Trap

Addiction in all its forms along with the illusion of control are indicated by this combination which I have to admit I can neither remember if it’s been drawn before nor whether I have previously utilised the title… non of which is important because each time cards from The Intuitive Chalice Oracle are drawn, so too is fresh energy and a new approach.

Pulling together Principle 3: I AM Human with the intensity of the yellow solar plexus we find ourselves the victims of unseen, unknowable changes drifting, even hurtling towards us on an energetic level and causing a momentary panic beneath the surface of a refined and dignified exterior. The thing about energy is that we become aware of it way before our eyes register evidence of it and the awareness is felt in the gut… the solar plexus, hence gut feeling. Panic ensues when we cannot rectify the feeling with the facts and so anxiety takes over and the mind does somersaults imagining outcomes to scenarios that in your material world have not yet even shown up…

Ok so that’s the ‘why?’, let’s look now at the ‘what?’…

Control is an illusion. The world is going to do what the world is going to do, right? So what do you resort to? “If I can’t control what’s coming I can at least numb myself to it in some form or another”… Well now, what’s your drug of choice? Cigarettes? Food? Shopping? Gambling? Extreme Sports? Mary J? Narcotics? Shit, the world is full of distractions to control the uncontrollable but this reading isn’t about the relapse into unhealthy addiction, it’s the tendency towards repetitive self-abuse that putting your foot on this slippery slope will lead to. ‘I AM Human’, gives you a heads up that making the mistake of taking a self destructive first step does not mean you might as well take the second and the third… The massive pizza you demolished last night is not a reason to drag out the pity party and scream “oh well, I’ve fucked up, I might as well eat cream buns for breakfast!” The control over your environment you were seeking can really quickly become an inability to even control yourself when this combination turns up… so what should we do?

Throw love at it. Lavish love upon yourself. Forgive the transgression and climb back on your respective wagon… but that energy of change is still flooding toward you and your solar plexus is twitching like a junkie needing a fix.

How do you know that this change isn’t the best thing that could ever happen to you? Start telling your new story like a love story with you as the leading role. You are a hero and the energy flowing towards you is an invitation to begin a new adventure. The yellow in that solar plexus should be joy, not fear, and being your seat of personal power, when the Grail offers up Principle 3, the very real human part of you should grab a hold of the divine and celebrate an opportunity to experience pure exhilaration as only a human being can.
