Irreconcilable, Inconceivable Even

We attempt an analytical approach to unfathomable situations mostly because it’s the rational mind’s function to compute. Acceptance and allowing are concepts native to the opposite side, the receptive side of the brain. Acceptance is easy when the calculation amounts to a satisfactory conclusion but when the requisite parts don’t add up then reconciliation, i.e. closure doesn’t come and getting your head or more precisely your left brain hemisphere (the logical side) around that is like getting a computer to stop calculating the unsolvable mathematical equation you asked it to do.

One of my favourite programmes growing up was “The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy” and I remember the super computer, affectionately named “Deep Thought” being given an equation to solve… one question kept it occupied for thousands of years and it just kept computing and calculating… the question: “What is the answer to life, the universe and everything?” Thousands if not millions of years later it came up with the answer: “42” ( good old Douglas Adams).

The incessant drive to find answers is an admirable trait of the human psyche but not necessarily one that’s conducive to inner peace. Not all questions have answers, that’s irreconcilable, inconceivable even to the logical mind but to the part of you that is Divine there never was any question… all is, was and ever more shall be exactly as it’s meant to be.

The logical mind, like a child will try to understand… “Why?” will be it’s favourite word and no explanation will quench its thirst until it hears what it wants to hear to make the jigsaw pieces fit together, until the loose ends are tied and the uncertainty has been stored in pretty little boxes. Have compassion for the child but interrupt the calculation with a new programme: “I have faith that God knows the answer and I have faith enough in myself to feel complete without it.” …or of course if that doesn’t work you could always just go with 42!

Principle 3: I AM Human
